Niger Adaptive Safety Net Project 2 Additional Financing

Start & End Date: 2021-Ongoing

Country/Countries: Niger

Multilateral Institution(s) Involved: World Bank

Niger is a low-income fragile country. As it is part of the Sahel region which currently experiences a security and humanitarian crisis potentially fuelling pre-existing tensions the country's stability is under threat. Moreover, the Covid-19 pandemic has severe economic and social consequeences and reversed earlier achievements in reducing poverty. Thus, food insequity has worsened, for example. Additionally, the country is also particularly vulnerable to climate shocks.

This project will help improve the capacity of the Niger adaptive safety nets system to respond to shocks and to provide access for poor and vulnerable people to safety nets and accompanying measures.
