Country/Countries: Burkina Faso, Chad, Ghana, Mali, Niger, Sierra Leone, Togo

Multilateral Institution(s) Involved: World Bank

Case Study: Available

In Western Africa, food insecurity is one major threat to human development and prosperity. As food systems are very prone to environmental influences, the risk of crop failures and the like is particularly high in those regions.

Resilience of food systems should be ensured through several steps. First, digital advisory services should support regional monitoring and evaluation systems. Second, the resilience of food components should be increased. Third, regional food market integration and trade will serve as a low-carbon climate adaption mechanisms. Fourth, financial eligible expenditures in the event of an emergency precipitated by a natural disaster should be implemented. Fifth, project management supervises the implementation.
